We had a great time playing the solstice party this weekend, and were pleased to debut some new material. Also, thanks to our special guest, H, who we were happy to have join us!
We played with Shelley Catalan, The Parsnips, and Rusty Nail. Shelley has a beautiful voice, and we're looking forward to catching her whole band sometime. The Parsnips surprised us with some exceptional vocal harmonies in some of their new covers, particularly a Yardbirds tune. They keep getting tighter every time we hear them, and it's evident they're putting a lot of energy into their sound. We missed much of Rusty Nail's set, so we hope to catch them another time. It was a perfect day for an outdoor party, and we enjoyed the food as well. The tofu subs with cilantro rocked! Thanks again to our hosts!
Get news, updates, bad jokes, and everything in poor taste on the Morning Shadows blog. New shows, new songs, videos, and what happened at the last show will all appear here.

Fuzz Fest 2016
Last night took us to the Blind Pig, where we caught several great bands playing Fuzz Fest. We had just come from practice, so we didn't have the energy to stay for the whole show, but we got to hear JUNGLEFOWL, a duo of drums and guitar with a heavy, psychedelic sound. I might add that their lady drummer is quite a talent. She sings while playing with power, precision and style. We went out of curiosity, and what a surprise we got!
We also managed to hear Blue Black Hours, which was also a really great trio that has elements of early 90s grunge, psychedelic guitar tones (that seems to be the theme at Fuzz Fest), and their singer offered a return to natural rock singing, that is, using his own voice without any put-on, false stylizing. He didn't try to sound any particular way. He projected his own authenticity, and it was very refreshing.
It was a good selection of local talent, and I encourage you to see these bands in person, yourself. Fuzz Fest is a fairly new music festival, this year being (I think) its third appearance. From what we saw, it looks like it has a very promising future. It's a new direction for music in this area. We welcome the change.

Recording Time
So far, we only have three songs available for online enjoyment, though we have over 60 minutes of finished music in our catalog right now, with several new songs still in the writing process. That can only mean one thing, and that is that the time has come for another recording session. Are we ready for a full length album? I'll say so!
Right now, we're looking at local studios, and thinking about album art. Until we have some new recordings, there's always this to tide you over.

One more thing- if you'd like to attend the private party we're playing on 18 June, toss me an email. We've been given the nod to add a couple guests. They've got good food and a wide variety of beverages, and the hosts are very accommodating. Spots are limited, so get writing!

On the count of four.......FOUR!
Morning Shadows is a fairly new music project that two former members of The Nothing have formed with a new drummer. Moving away from The Nothing, we're keeping the genre hopping unpredictability, but the new sound is less raucous, and more danceable.
Caput has brought his viola back from its resting place, and Pianist found a new keyboard with a greater variety of tones. Drummer contributes his jazz sensibilities to the beat.
We have a private party in a week and a half, and we are looking for additional shows for the summer. We're also looking forward to posting live videos of our shows to our Youtube channel, so keep an eye out for that!
So the fun tidbits about our adventures? Well, over the weekend, Pianist and Caput checked out some new bands in Detroit, namely, The Dirty Notion, Nadir Omowale, and 1592 at PJ's Lager House. Where have the reggae bands been hiding? It looks like we stumbled onto a well kept secret, which we'll happily whisper to you. You don't have to click your heels. Good music DOES live here. We'll share all our finds with you, as long as you promise to do the same. We always want to know where good music lives, so please contact us when you hear a band you love.

Oh, and 10 points to anyone who can cite the reference made in today's blog title. I'll put the first correct responder on the guest list at our next show. Really!
